Changing Times and Our Values
When I started Legacy Corner ten years ago my objectives
were very basic. I wanted to identify and capture the
beauty and culture of Western Pennsylvania. In the
past years I have been able to meet these objectives not
only on my own but by my associated work with a major
utility company, a technologies company and as an account
executive with the Westsylvania Heritage Corporation.
My association work with all three has ended and the
Westsylvania organization no longer exists to publishes a
regional magazine or support preservation and cultural
projects. I guess that means greater responsibility
for myself and others who value our heritage; so let's try
to make our work pleasurable and fun.
During the past
ten years I have seen the economy in Western Pennsylvania
struggle in both cities and small towns. I have seen
wonderful old land mark buildings deteriorate and removed
for parking lots and plastic strip malls. I have seen
small businesses close, store fronts empty and side walks
crumble; however that does not mean that with these changing
times we that we should place less value on the importance
of neighbors and community. In the weeks and months
ahead I will share many new photographs of special places,
concerns and certainly recent projects that deserve the
praise and respect for their completion.
One such
project was the restoration of the Bedford Springs where I
had the opportunity to photograph this major restoration
project. I will share many photographs taken during
that times and encourage all of you to visit this grand
facility.
Please don't hesitate to share your
favorite place with me so that it can be captured for others
to see or let me know of a favorite place that has fallen on
hard times and needs documented by photograph so others can
see the need to preserve a valued treasure.
